Dell Inspiron 1520 – 1521 Review

Firstly, I have to begin by saying that I was quite impressed when glancing at what the Dell Inspiron 1520 and 1521 has to offer. It was not to my surprise however as the 1420 model left me satisfied eagerly awaiting a newer model – the Inspiron 1520. As I have mentioned there are two models to this series, the Dell Inspiron 1520 and 1521, the main difference being the processor. The 1520 standard comes in built with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, whereas the 1521 features an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor and chipset. I highly appreciate that Dell has given us, the consumers a choice in the matter.

Style wise Dell has continued its trends from the Inspiron 1420 and is again offering style to their range. Aside from the traditional black or white case, you have available, red, green, yellow, brown, pink and blue. There are many added featured to overall design since the Inspiron 1420 that add to the value of this notebook series.

A closer look at the specs of this machine revelas that the Inspiron 1520 / 1521 can maintain up to 4GB of memory at 667MHz. Yes the machine comes pre-installed with Windows Vista. The hard drive capacity available at upgrade is 160GB. Graphics wise you have the option of either a Nvidia GeForce Go 8400 GS (128MB) or Nvidia GeForce Go 8600M GT (256MB), which is actually quite impressive for a notebook these days. The machine also features all the basics that you would expect including a CD-RW/DVD-ROM plus a Blu-ray drive (a nice addition). Also included is a internal modem, ethernet port and Wi-Fi (802.11a/g/n). In the expansion bay is a PC card slot and you will also find 4 USB 2.0 ports The Inspiron 1520 / 1521 screen size is 15.4 inches and considered standard for today’s notebooks. However what is impressive is that the display can be configured to a native resolution of up to 1920 x 1200 which is somewhat unique.

The Dell Inspiron 1520 / 1521 has a starting price range set at $749. For what you’re getting with this machine, this price is amazing. Even at standard configuration with our any upgrades you will be hard done trying to find a better deal which offers the same performance and quality. Dell has yet again proven that they can deliver a great machine at a very affordable price. There are some things which I don’t love about the machine and think can be improved upon, however they’re not worth including in this review because they are so minor, and at this price range I am definitely pleased. I was impressed with the 1420 and I am yet again impressed with the Dell Inspiron 1520 / 1521.
